The It Gets Better Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting, empowering, and connecting LGBTQ+ youth around the globe. Founded in September 2010 in response to a series of tragic suicides among LGBTQ+ youth, the project began with a simple yet powerful message: It gets better. This message, shared through a viral YouTube video, inspired over 70,000 people to share their stories of resilience, creating the world’s largest storytelling campaign for LGBTQ+ youth.
Mission and Impact
It Gets Better envisions a world where all LGBTQ+ youth can live equally, connect with their communities, and recognize their own power. LGBTQ+ youth face unique challenges, including higher rates of self-esteem issues and a lack of support. The organization works to reach young people before they reach a crisis point, providing life-affirming resources, tools, and community connections to help them navigate their sexual orientation and/or gender identity journey.
